Washington Community Development Center

We Are Washington is a community outreach program initiated by the 501(c)(3) organization I Am a Hero, Inc.  Our goal is to unite people and promote enlightenment. The founder often emphasizes that the community owns Washington, hence the name "We are Washington." This means everyone, including you, your kids, and the entire community, is part of Washington.

Our aim is to assist members of the community in enhancing their quality of life through the promotion of awareness for both children and adults, as well as providing financial and other forms of assistance to families. This is achieved by utilizing the center as a central hub for hosting classes, programs, and community events. Our approach is based on three key methods:

RECREATION WING

The recreation wing has been designed to provide kids with engaging and stimulating activities, keeping them off the streets and out of trouble. It offers a wide range of options, including an indoor basketball court, pool tables, ping pong, an X-box gaming room, a study hall, a podcast room, a youth room, a movie theatre, and an arcade.

LIFE SKILLS WING

Our life skills wing consists of 9 non-profit organizations and numerous community partners. We offer a diverse range of classes for both youth and adults completely free of charge. Our daily classes include sewing, theatre, and various cooking classes. We also offer educational classes, such as Business in the Real World, Pathway Life Skills Courses, and Financial Literacy. These classes are available for individuals of all ages, and the curriculum is designed accordingly.

PARTNERSHIPS

We have teamed up with several nonprofit and community partners to provide a diverse range of free assistance programs at Washington. These programs cover various areas such as parenting, GED preparation, fitness and nutrition guidance, youth empowerment, re-acclimation support, youth sports, domestic violence aid, food security, entrepreneurship, and general life skills.

how can you help?

Our center is in constant need of dedicated male and female mentors who can guide and support our youth. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping young people and making a positive impact on their lives. If you're interested in volunteering with us, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Volunteer

If you have a deep interest in a specific subject and want to share your knowledge, we invite you to teach at Washington or sign up for our varied educational classes. We have two community spaces available that include a kitchen for culinary classes and a general classroom for other topics. You can view our class schedule on the calendar or get in touch with us to propose your own class.

Teach or Attend a Class

We aim to maintain free services for the community in Washington. Donations are greatly appreciated and accepted in any form. As a sponsor, you can donate as low as $1,000 annually and be featured on our wall of fame. For further details, kindly reach out to Jasmine Bruce at (903) 701-1662.
