We Are Washington is a community based outreach program formed by the 501(c)(3)
I Am a Hero, Inc. The program was founded to help people come together and
enlighten their minds. As the founder would like to say the community owns Washington so “We are Washington”, which means YOU are Washington, Your KIDS are Washington, the entire COMMUNITY is Washington. Our mission is to help those in the community improve their lives by creating awareness for both children and adults and funding/supporting the needs of families residing in the community by utilizing the center as a hub for classes, programs, and community events. We do this in three main ways:
RECREATION WING
LIFE SKILLS WING
The life skills wing is currently comprised of 9 nonprofits as well as several community partners who offer a variety of both adult and youth classes at no charge. They have fun classes like Sewing, Theatre, and various cooking classes as well as more educational classes like Business in the Real World, Pathway Life Skills Course, and Financial Literacy. All classes are free and are available for youth and adults of all ages based on the curriculum.
The recreation wing is a fun-packed area filled with tons of activities that give the kids something to do to get them off the streets, out of trouble, and involved in fun and educational activities. This is literally a kid’s dream, an inside basketball court, pool tables, ping pong, X-box gaming room, study hall, a podcast room, youth room, theatre, and an arcade.
PARTNERSHIPS
Our partnership with a variety of nonprofit and community partners there is a wide range of free assistance that is offered at Washington a few of those include parenting classes, GED assistance, fitness and nutrition guidance, financial literacy, youth empowerment, re-acclimation assistance, youth sports, domestic violence assistance, food insecurities, entrepreneurship, and general life skills.

how can you help?
We are always needing strong Men and Women mentors to help guide the youth that attends the center. We need people that have a passion for youth and want to make a difference in their lives. When volunteering you can choose to sit at the front of the center and check students in, you can choose to sit in one of the rooms such as the X box game room or theatre and oversee the activities of that room, or you could choose to roam between the different rooms interacting with the youth by shooting pool, playing board games, dominos or cards or even challenging them to a game of basketball.
If you have a passion for something and want to share your knowledge, we want you to teach at Washington. There are 2 community rooms available where you can teach any type of class including a kitchenette for cooking classes and a general classroom for instruction.
As we continue to strive to keep everything free for the community donations are much needed and appreciated. You can become a wall of fame member with an annual donation as low as $1,000. For more information, please contact Contact Courtney Blair at 870-600-0228
